Drag racing action from the eighth-mile pavement at Barona, CA. This was the 2009 season opener, with a Gamber Grudge race, and a Fast Car Shoot-Out featuring Rick Reynolds in the Pinto vs. Mike Hayden in his early Chevy Camaro. Unfortunately Mike got upside down in a freak one-car accident, and couldn’t make the race call. The debut of the M-SpecMotorSports.com Outlaw Turbo class was off the hook. There were 19 cars trying to qualify for an 8-car field, with virtually no rules, and the winner guaranteed to get over $3,400. The first runner-up earned $1,100, and even if you went out in the first round of drag racing, you still took home $100. Some of the sponsors that donated cash included Bonaco Inc., Urias Racing, Jagermeister, Geers Engineering, U.S Rubber Recycling, Art Gumpfer Motorsports, Vince White Racing, and the Unlimited Street Car crew. Comp Turbo stepped up with $500.00 shop credit for the winner, TurboSmart USA donated product certificates, and BugPack provided $400.00 in product certificates for the winner and runner up. This is drag racing video of the fourth and final round of qualifying for the Street Car Super Nationals 2008 race. This round was do or die for the dozen or so cars that hadn’t yet made the 32-car elimination field. Among those still out in the cold was Steve Cook in his wheelstanding Plymouth Roadrunner, and Pro Street drag racing legend Monte Berney in Bertha II, his supercharged 1955 Chevrolet. In this drag racing video, you’ll see Doug Reed being pulled out the door of his 1957 Chevy muscle car, during which there was a small fire visible under the car.
